Just saw your name and made me think, as you live in Zimbabwe....................it has all gone very quiet over the last two years.

The media was reporting that white farms were being taken over by blacks and that it was dangerous to be a whit in Zimbabwe. Also,the health care was non existent and people were dying of starvation, TB, AIDS and other dietary deficiencies under Mugabe.

All seem to have settled.

I'd be interested to know too, an ex of mine was from SA and his dad is a white Zimbawean, left for SA before coming here years ago so I used to hear a bit about things. I wondered if it had quietened media wise after the election issues. I do hope it has got better though.

Moire likely the coverage has been stifled? I read a brilliant book about the situation about a year ago; will see if I can dig it out and post the name and author.

Don't let the lack of news coverage fool you. The last remaining white farmers are still being kicked off the farms. The country is in a serious decline. Having ruined the economy and destroyed farming in the country they are now staring on I dusty and business. All foreign and white owned business but have a 51 0/0 black ownership. The result of this is that people are closing down and of course there is no foreign investment. Since the collapse of the economy in 2008 we have been using the us dollar as our currency. Things seemed better to start with but now that they can't manipulate the economy by printing money they are finding other ways to cripple the recovery of the economy. Health services are quite scary. One doesn't want to get seriously ill here. We still have some great gps here but for anything serious it's a trip to Sth Africa and make sure your bupa is up to date. For the local population, well take two headache tabs go home and die. They are planning new elections so the terror squads are out and about intimidating people but without any serious opposition then I can see R G getting another term. It is fairly safe being white here going about our daily routine. We all live behind our 10ft walls with electric fence and alarms and gun under the pillow but you get used to it I suppose.. But we , well me and my friends, still have a good life here we have learnt how to deal with things and we have lots of outside trips which keeps us sane , sort of, so I suppose I am here for the duration.

Still a great place for a holiday if one wants to do the Africa safari thing. Not so cheap these days tho.
