Is �50, UK's highest banknote? and approximately how long would it take to manually count out a �1million in 50's?

Yes, it's the highest note. There are 20,000 of those notes in 1 million quid, so if it takes one second to count out each note, it would take approximately 5 and a half hours.

Although, if you were quite quick at counting cash you could probably manage 2-3 notes per second; it would take one-and-a-half to three hours to count �1 million in this way. There are also machines that can count banknotes at a rate of 20 per second, according to Google.com.

Whether Scottish notes are legal tender or not does not change alter their inherent value but it dictates their legal function. Credit cards, cheques and debit cards are not legal tender either but it doesn't stop them being used as payment. Only a minuscule percentage of Scottish and British trading is carried out using legal tender. Just because something is not legal tender certainly doesn't imply it's illegal to use. So... to answer answerbok's question, No the �50 is not the UK's highest banknote, �100 is... however �50 is the highest "Legal Tender" note...
