I like this line "A British servicewoman who unknowingly gave birth".....now she may have not known she was pregnant but I'm pretty sure she knew she was giving birth!

Like most new mothers she will take maternity leave and then arrange child care on her return to work.

This might sound 'appalling' to some on this forum - guess who?, but when I opened the link and looked at - especially - the left hand photo, I genuinely thought it was a bloke!

My first instinct was to shout: "Get an 'aircut, you 'orrible little man!" (Not that I was ever addressed in such a manner in my time in the Forces - cough)

I think this is an example of how supposed journalism is getting coverage by attempts at muck-raking and sensationalism.
And 'what happens to the baby' is muck-raking journo's will pursue him for the rest of his existence.
God help us all, with all this technology at our disposal it comes down to this.

This is the Army we are talking about, yes they provide 'Married Quarters' and Welfare facilities, but I don't think they provide crèche facilities, where one can place their infants while one carries out one's duties and also go off on excises and detachments etc.

So fighting in Afghanistan disassociates one from anything that has brought oneself into the news, does it?

Regarding the publicity she has inadvertently attracted, I don't think she will refuse the consequent benefits that will most likely be showered down upon her.

Just goes to show that certain newspapers and journalists will jettison support for 'our boys and girls' the moment their trouts sniff out something they can plaster all over their pages.

No - but she is fully justified in calling all those who have written critical articles about her to quit their jobs and face the bullets, mortar bombs and snipers that she has had to deal with.

I may be in a minority here, but I reckon if you've had the guts to serve in Afghanistan, being medivac'd out of the country to have a baby doesn't in any way, detract from what you've done to serve your country.

I don't think anyone is criticizing her bravery, just the military stupidity in not pregnancy testing their female service personnel before sending them out into a war zone, and her capability of looking after an infant while at the same time being a serving soldier.
