I am reporting to you from a wet (though the rain has stopped) West Yorkshire. This morning I drove along the A64 to York and was greatly surprised to see the extent of the flooding of fields in the neighbourhood of Tadcaster. The water on a football field was about one foot below the crossbar of the goalposts. The River Wharfe in Tadcaster has burst its banks and flooded the town centre. The River Ouse has also flooded fields to the north of York and the course of the river cannot be discerned. A more-appropriate term would be Lake Ouse. In York itself, the Ouse has risen to partly flood the Museum Gardens park. Apart from that, we seem to be coping quite well. Oh, yes, it's started to rain again.
