Highlighting important Emails

Hiya Abers.

I have several emails that I darent wipe off and want to highlight them with the star on far right side of email messages.
When I click on them ,some work and some dont.
Any idea why they wont highlight, I'm doing something wrong?

Sorry don't know about the star system but I put any e-mails I need to save in a sub-folder in my inbox. That way they can only be accessed if you open the folder.

So sorry for delay prudie, thanks for reply.
I used to save emails in folder --saved emails, but its now a different set up and not sure about removing them yet. Bit scared I'll lose them and not find them again, haha. Will speak to my neice on Sunday and she will put me right hopefully.
Yes, its strange that certain emails highlight and not all of them .
Will try and have another bash at it in the morning. Many thanks Prudie x
