I worked out the cost of petrol per gallon today and on average it's over £6.
It appears bad enough when we look at prices per litre but even worse when we work it out in gallons.
And as for diesel!!
I try to walk everywhere but not always practical.
Anyone know the average annual cost of running a car these days?

@132.9p/litre of petrol, the split is: 57.95p duty, 47.8 p for product (and out of this if UK crude, the Govt takes PRT (Petroleum Revenue Tax), 5p for the Retailer and 22.15p to VAT - so who is gaining?

Diesel @ 137.9p, 57.95p duty, 51.97p product (including PRT), 5p retailer and 22.98p VAT.

Thanks for the feedback. It goes to show how much we rely on cars these days as well.
I think I'll fill mine up with wine later.
I don't even know how much petrol costs.
Give me £50 and I'll put 20 litres in for you then ummmmmmmmm :+)
lol...

I just fill up with money. I don't actually look at what it costs. That's not me being blasé with money, it's the fact that I don't drive much. £10 lasts me over 2 weeks.

We went to the wedding in Retford. Ginge put £30 in the car, I'm still driving on it.
That was the beginning of September.
Clanad, your price is in US gallons (3.75 litres) our gallon is 4.5 litres. We have literally more to complain about ! For a while your fuel was $3.75 a US gallon, which we could translate pretty easily. Why we persist in miles per gallon when the fuel is sold in litres is not obvious. It's just habit and only works for comparing one car with another. It would be easier if we used litres per 100 miles (in Europe generally they use litres per 100km) or even, given modern cars' economy, miles per litre. Then the cost would be easily calculated, in practical terms, by anyone.
