My dog (Lakeland Terrier 7 Years old) has just killed a rat in the garden. His vacinations are upto date but just want to make sure he won't get ill from killing the rat.

Thanks

What a clever good dog!
He'll be fine - you don't want to know what dogs lick and chew when you don't look.
I remember when our then Doberman did that a few years ago, he got taken to the vets for a jab, don't know what it was though. I'd give the vet a ring, rats are full of germs.
If his vaccinations are up to date I wouldn't worry. Check for any bites though. My cross JackRussell/Lakeland has caught a her fair share of rats and come to no harm. Most Vaccinations these days include leptospirosis cover, but I don't that that is usually caught through contact with rat urine.

If his has got a rat bite, bathe with plenty of hot salty water.
