cd rom gone ?

my dvd cd rw drive has disappeared - the computer no longer 'sees' the drive and it is no longer on the hardware profiles. I had been having a problem with the drive opening and closing for no reason. anyone got any idea what might be wrong ?

its connection cable(s) are broken, buy a new one or go through loads of hastle fixing it

Well check the connections first. If you're not confident working with your computer innards, it might be safer to take it to a professional, or at the very least a friend who knows what they're looking for :P

Thanx to all - it was indeed the connection cable! I took it off both ends and replugged it - hey presto dvd rom is back- I will get another cable just to make sure. MTIH1992 u are my hero
