This happened to one of my dogs once, the vet misdiagnosed it as a gastric problem and gave me some medication for him, which only made things worce.
The next day when i took him back to the vet they found he had a massive tumour on his liver .
I think you do best to find out for surre!
Best wishes..
Vets are obliged to have an out of hours service - although some don't run it themselves, they subscribe to a 'group' practice sharing the duties between several surgeries.. There is also a service called Vets Now, (which stands for night or weekend) which provide an out of hours service for vets in some cities, and they will give advice over the phone but they are rather expensive if you have to use them..
all vets must provide 24 hour cover im a nures who works at an emergency clinic and you must speak to someone asap, when you rang your own vets did it give you a telephone number of someone to contact in case of an emergency? if should have ring it even if you cant go they should have someone trained to give advise when you phone. Some practices offer an ambulance service if transport is a problem i know we do.
if shes keeping water down than thats good just tiny amounts often, could you collect a urine sample? if you could that will help the vet a lot . in view of her age they will prob want to do some bloods and see whats going on , she may even need to stay in and go on a drip depending on her results.
the pdsa do do 24hr clinics too but you have to be on housing benifits or council tax benifits and proof of id is also needed. rspca also have a 24hr number 07805555999 but im afraid there pretty crap and will prob just tell you to ring your own vet.
im sorry to say it prob will be expensive too, i know too well how expensive vets can be.
good luck and keep us all posted
