My Old Man lives on the sofa.
That's where he wants to be.
He likes to sit there night and day
and watch what's on TV.
He surfs the channels constantly
by playing "his" remote,
then watches what he wants to watch;
I never get a vote.
He's fond of films with nubilemodels.
He takes in sporting shows.
Whenever Simpson cartoons come on

Yep "Poetry in Motion" LOL
sloopy, what a waste
Question Author
Seriously DT, have you written any poetry books? If not, we think you should! Although I do prefer rhymes to rhyme but then I'm old fashioned!!
Nope, I haven't - Ann - as you see I do both........I also quite like a mixed. where you finish a poem off with a little rhyme - or a tart statement to a rhymed one.

I was going to comment on Motion too.....I didn't know that Andrew M was an Aber?

An "ode" for all you dog lovers (not mine, found online!)

My dog lives on the sofa.
That's where he wants to be.
He likes to sit there night and day
and watch what's on TV.
He surfs the channels constantly
by chewing the remote,
then watches what he wants to watch;
I never get a vote.
He's fond of films with animals.
He takes in nature shows.
Whenever cat cartoons come on
he always watches those.
He loves the pet commercials too,
and anything with food.
Whenever there's a tennis match
he nearly comes unglued.
I got him from the dog pound.
He didn't cost a cent.
I asked them for a "watch dog,"
but this isn't what I meant!

Comment? Andrew M?
sibs, it's the mental picture...
Andrew Motion, ex Poet Laureate.......hence the laughter here!

Haha thats good then, I hadn't heard of Andrew Motion (1999 Poet Laureate) googled that! only remembered Sir John Betjeman who wrote some really good ones .....
Question Author
Very good DT - gave you "Best Answer" for that - if only for the speed you churned it out!!
Ann - Betjeman is buried down here in a beautiful Church at St Enedoc, (Rock); it's right in the middle of a golf course (a lovely one at that).

(and thanks xx - only 3 to the ton!)
This is my contribution to National Poetry Day, not as good a other people's poems.

Oh to be a regal swan
How gracefully they swim
Gliding down the rivers
Feathers neat and trim

Oh to be an eagle
Soaring up on high
Coasting on the wind of life
Master of the sky

Oh to be a lion
King of the jungle he
Prowling through the undergrowth
Who will his next prey be?

Oh to be a giraffe
With a neck so tall
Surveying all around him
Reaching the high leaves all

Oh to be a monkey
Swinging in the trees
Eating coconuts and bananas
And playing as they please

Oh a lovely animal
I would like to be
Living a life of freedom
That will do for me.
Question Author
Maybe that lovely little church inspired John Betjeman to write "Diary to a Church Mouse?""
Nothing wrong with that, marval! Well done.
actually, my hazy memory thinks that it was, Ann...........
Question Author
Very good Marval, a fine contribution to this special day. Did you write it yourself? If so, there should be two "Best Answers" :)
Thank you DT and Ann, yes I wrote it.
Roses are red
And so is wine (sometimes)
DT's poetry
Is better than mine (always)
