Thanks for the previous answer BobJim. The statement I need to answer is:

' Pancreatic Juice is important for the digestion of protein because the pancreas secretes lipase, amylase and nuclease'.

Both of these statements are true independently of each other but does the second explain the first?

Lipase is primarily concerned with breaking down triglycerides into monoglycerides, and amylase breaks up long chain carbohydrates.

You'd be right in saying that the second statement does explain the first, but only partly.
Nuclease breaks up DNA and RNA, which is further broken down by nucleotidase enzymes, into its consituent parts (sugar, phosphate group, and the base.)
Nucleases apply to breaking down DNA specifically, but there are other enzymes called endopeptidases that break up proteins for digestion in general.

No you have spotted it Madchen,

Pancreatic juice is important.....(A)

in secretes all that stuff.....(B)

and B doesnt imply A

This is a MCQ type question that is going out of fashion really fast in the UK as it defeats non-English speakers

(and therefore doesnt test knowledge as an MCQ can and is meant to do )

It also illustrates my pet point which is that "because" defeats symbolization of sentences.

A because of B has to be reversed B -> A,

and this is not intuitive at all......

or even A <- B which is a bit of whoopsie when it comes to symbolic logic

Cheers
