Rutland Water Osprey Disaster

According to the Leicester Mercury, 03 October,the male osprey 09 has died in the Sahara. His two leg rings and transmitter have been found by a pile of feathers and bones. He was one of the original birds that were brought from Scotland. A sad end.

Oh NO! That's terrible news. I wonder what happened to the poor thing. Bugger!
Sad, but hopefully his offspring will return next Year to breed
no consolation but at least they know when and where - better than him disappearing completely as so many must do - very sad but hopefully one of the youngsters will one day take over

Thanks all for replying. They think he might have been eaten by an animal after collapsng with exhaustion after going well off course earlier in the migration.( Sorry for delayed reply. I have also been "blown off course" by a dislocated shoulder!!
