hi we have exel at work

and are trying to do a spreadsheet

where we put a figure in column a

from say line 1 to 18

and then take 65% off each figure

how do we do it ??

You can't easily take 65% off a figure in column A and have the result in column A

You can get the result shown in column B easily by entering the start figure in A1 and then in B1 enter the formula =A1*0.35

You can then copy and paste B1 into B2,B3,B4 and so on for all the rows you want to use.
formula for cell where you wish to put amended value
(ref for cell with full value) * 0.35
example = a1*0.35
formula can be copied for other cells
[this will give 65% as 100%-65% = 35% or 0.35]
Something like this:
=SUM(A4*0.065)
In column B type

=SUM(A1*.35)

then copy it down all required rows. It will automatically change A1 to A2 etc as you move down.
Oh damn, didn't read properly - ignore mine.
"Something like this:
=SUM(A4*0.065)"

That will subtract 93.5%

nut if you look at the answers

fibonaccis looked very complicated

and sea jay peas was very easy for us to undersatnd

as you can probably guess - where not what you would call whiz kids!
