Short Break in York
20 Answers
We're off to York for a short break this weekend.
Can anyone tell me what mustn't be missed, also anything that in their opinion is overrated?
I am attracted to 'Free' by the way!
Thank you.

The Minster is stunning. Clifford's Tower is quite interesting, along with the Castle Museum and Law Courts, these buildings used to be the old York prisons. If you like trains there's the National Railway Museum, and there's always the Viking Museum in Coppergate. A walk down the Shambles (a medieval street) is free. There's also the Natural History...

A visit to the Minster is a must - cliched or not.
Walk around, and remember that generations of artistans laboured on this structure, and never saw its completion, and just how important God must have been in their lives to conceive, design, and construct such a monument.
The nearest we ever got was the Millenium Dome ha ha!

Clifford Tower is a must, also a good idea to take a scenic open-air bus tour and of cause the National train Museum is also a must.
Enjoy your visit.

The Castle Museum with its Victorian street is very good, but not free. Gift aid the entrance fee and the ticket is valid for a year.
National Railway museum is free.
Dungeons is, in my opinion, over-rated and expensive. If you're desperate to go there look out for 2 for 1 tickets. They're all over the place.
The art gallery, too, is free with some interesting paintings and ceramics collection.
Yorkshire Museum is interesting in parts and not free.
Yorvic centre is OK if you;re interested in the ancient history of York. Can be long queues and fairly expensive.
There are two good antique centres on Stonegate if that's your scene. Free entry, obviously.
Whatever you do you'll enjoy yourselves.
