Hi,
Can someone explain the paramaters of a ping test? is it affected by the distance ( and therefore adsl speed, the further , the slower) from the telephone exchange, or just the distance to your server, or the server that is running the speed test, such as " namesco speed test"? It appears to me that the the ping is related to the download speed, i.e. the higher ping number, the slower the speed at test, such as: 500 kbs download gave a ping of 125ms, whereas a ping of 55 ms gave a download speed of 4 mbs.
thanks,
Percy.
A ping sends a fairly small packet of data to a remote server and waits for the reply.... as such the speed of the connection is not really all that relevant as the amount of data sent for a ping is miniscule.
I really can't be arsed to go into the full details of it at this time on a friday night (after 5 beers)... but have a play with the pathping command and the tracert command and you should be able to see where the slow ping results are coming from.
