ICE can save lives

If you are involved in an accident, are found unconscious or are taken ill while you are in posession of your mobile phone, the emergency services will need to contact your next of kin quickly.

Rather than trawling through your list of contacts to find the right person, it is easier for them to look for ICE (In Case of Emergency) in the listings.

Enter ICE instead of your next of kin's name.

We've ICE'd all our phones, did it ages ago.
This isn't advertised enough. I have had ICE on my phone for a few years but I don't think it is widely known that emergency services automatically look to see if there is an entry. I agree it is a quicker way of getting to next of kin.
Mine has the information under 'Home' which is how I was told to do it a few years back.
ICE is definitley the one that is used. Eddie, you could perhaps have both entries just in case.
I've got an ICE but I'm not sure how it saves lives. It just makes it a bit easier for them to find who to contact.
The emergency services can contact next of kin and gain any knowledge of the ill/injured person and can find out if they are on medication more quickly especially if the person is unconscious and cannot give any information themselves.
I've got Mr Frog listed as ICE in my phone. I was told about this by bro-in-law who's a cop, but probably wouldn't have known otherwise. It really should be better promoted.
You learn something new everyday.
I've just changed both our mobiles now. Thank you!
No good if you keep your phone locked with a code though
Never heard of this, great idea! However I've got Mr Boo listed as "Da hubby" in my phone, so I'm assuming if owt happened, that'd be the logical number to call anyway?
Had it on all our phones for a while now. Definitely needs more publicity.
Agree with Evian, don't see how it saves lives.
Thing with that though Boo is that they might not be looking for 'Da Hubby'. It's not really a usual sort of term to look for.
This has been around for years - first heard about it when I lived in London over 7 years ago.

Not sure how this saves lives though!
I have my next of kins as favourites so they are at the top of my contact list.
I didn't know this......thanks DSJ. Can see getting information about an unconscious person quickly could be a life saver.
My OH and I have had it on our phones for some years as well. I have a heart condition so if I collapse and am unable to talk, any medics would get more info quicker from my wife about my condition by ringing ICE than they could from anywhere else.
parkdale, I hope you have put brief details of your condition under your ICE entry as well as the contact number.
What if your mobile is password protected? The emergency people won't be able to access it.
