Were the left wing red tops in it up to their neck too?

I'll be interested to see the reaction of all the lefties on this site who were only too pleased to see the Murdoch empire clobbered.
From this it looks like Trinity mirror were at it too, not really any surprise since all these hacks seem to p** in the same pot.

I doubt that'll surprise anybody as they'll have needed to compete on the salacious tittle-tattle that all the tabloids seem to thrive on.
I for one don't have that much time for any of the gutter press regardless of their political persuasion.
Now if you can find the Guardian or the FT engaged in phone hacking - that'd be a story!

I do not care what the political affiliation of the media outlet is - If they carried out illegal practices in persuit of gossip and scandal, with no convincing public interest defence - they should be prosecuted, if they have evidence to do so.
And, left winger that I am , I applaud the actions of papers like the Daily Telegraph when they published the MP expenses.
I try not to let my political bias blind me when looking at various issues. How about you?

"Well I think the Mirror is the only centre-left red top"
just spat my cornflakes all over my screen ! brilliant
I worked for the Mirror Group for 12 years, believe me they arent centre left, and they are as bad as all the other papers.
Maxwell spent as much time spying on staff as he did outsiders.
remember when Maxwell died and they found that small room full of "hi-tech" (for its day around mid nineties) , equipment for all sorts of hacking and spying. It was a big surprise to a lot of the staff but not to others
all run by his head of security John Pole an ex detective.
Oh yes they were guilty of hacking .

Oooh this does sound interesting Baz
Do you mean they're far left? or right wing?
I mean centre left in the sense that they've historically editorally supported the Labour party a centre left party.
I'd expect a variety of political opinions amoung the actual staff.
Do tell more! - I take it you were one of Maxwell's victims?

I survived Maxwell at the mirror by 8 years, but I do know some victims
the victims are the people that lost money in the pension funds and all the staff that were continually being made redundant by Montgomery when he subsequently took over as CEO.
First edict from Montgomery to all staff was a memo that there should be no alchohol in any of the offices or desks on the premises.
for those that think the broadsheets dont/didnt get involved in all the same shennanigans then think again, newspapers all use the same methods to a greater or lesser degree
