What hardy perrennials are always on tap in your area? I'm not talking the usual 4 pump clips of Fosters, Guiness Extra Cold, Stella and John Smiths. I'm talking what pubs think of as real ale but tend to be a bit samey.

Round here its all Fullers London Pride and Marston Pedigree or Greene King IPA. Bit annoying as these breweries are capable of brewing decent beers (apart from Greene King) Would be nice to see a Fullers ESB or Marstons Old Empire for a change.

On the upside since Fullers took over Gales at least HSB is more available. Even though they closed Gales brewery in Horndean and moved production up to Chiswick the taste hasnt changed. Unlike when Greene King got its hands on Old Speckled Hen.

If a 'pint' of newcastle brown was good enough for the likely lads it's good enough for me.

I've never seen Newky Brown on tap anywhere.

Oddly when I visited the states I was half expecting to see Guiness everywhere - nope, Newky Brown in all 7 states I visited!

We're close to the wonderful Uley brewery, so most pubs have Uley bitter and Uley Old Spot. Also close to Stroud brewery, so we have Tom Long and Budding. I like it here!

methyl - just seen your post re Youngs Winter Warmer. I remember that from when I lived in London in the 80s. Probably the only thing that made living in London worthwhile. Lovely

If you want Sam Smith's beer Methyl come to Tad. I can think of 5 pubs without trying and I'm sure there must be more.

Not surprisingly, most beers here are from around Lancashire,
Lancashire Blonde, Lancashire Bomber
Pendle Pride (Moorhouses, whose Premier also features)
Even Barnsley Bitter from the other side of the Pennines in one place.

We have a lot of Nicholsons pubs which regularly have beers from Thornbridge on pumps

Jaipur goes too quickly but they have recently launched a similar but lighter one called Lord Marples which is rather pleasant... we also get lots of Wye Valley beers usually Butty Bach and IPA And Oakham (some lovely fresh ones in their range) I love Birmingham it sees to be beer central


For the continental afficionados Leffe blond is appearing on draught more often and its much nicer than the bottles and Sierra nevada is good with chilli or curry And most of the pubs we frequent now have at least one wheat beer Maisels or Franziskaner usually so if there are no real ales we fancy there are viable alternatives although we have been caught out by those dear lickle bottles of Duvel... well they are only small....

I like the Franziskaner Hefeweisen. I remember buying a crate of it in Germany after a night on it. My thinking was 'you'll never see this in the UK' A few months later both Tescos and Lidls were stocking it regularly.

I picked up a few bottles of Leffe Ruby in France last month. Really good intro to beer for non-beer drinkers as it basically Leffe infused with fruit cordial, like Jacques cider is to cider. Not seen it over here though...
