Is it faithful to the book LeMarchand? I would like to see it because I love the book, but I was very dissapointed in The Hitchhikers Guide film was awful. (and one of my favourite books)
I am also a bit dissapointed that they started with this one rather than the first book.

I haven't read the book for a while, but to the best of my recollection it is very faithful to the book. A lot of the dialogue has been (understandably) updated - don't worry, the kids still sound like WWII evacuees, but they're not as "jolly hockey sticks" as in the books. There are a few added scenes, mainly in the battle (this happens primarily "off page" in the book) but the only jarring scene is a chase on a frozen river which seems to be there to up the "action quotient" and to provide a level for the inevitable video game.

If you love the book as an adult, and can let out your inner child to see the movie, I think you'll love it too!

P.S. ******* was actually the first book written (TMN was the last but one Lewis wrote) and is the most well-known, hence it is the one they've made first. It actually makes sense to film first, as some of the mysterious stuff in ******* is explained in TMN.

I agree with you, it's friggin' annoying when they cinematise a really brilliant book and then half the kids who watch it don't even realise it was a book in the first place!
This is the main reason why I don't think they should make a film of His Dark Materials, though that would be amazing.

Just wondering ,do all the Mums and Dads who come on Answerbank and Chatterbank read these excellent books to or with their children ;e.g.Narnia books ?

Well Dolly I hope so. I have a box set of all the Narnia books that I've had for years and they are on my sons "to read" list. When he was younger I used to read my favourite childhood books to him, and because I have a lot of them, he is now working his way through a lot of them himself (He is now 9) I'm so pleased that he loves reading. He came home from school a few weeks ago, raving about a book they were doing, and as he described it to me, I smiled and went through to my bedromm, and brought the book through, he was VERY happy. I was pleased that they were reading a book we had done at the same age.
