Forgive my ignorance on this as I'm sure the answer is fairly obvious but can anyone explain to me what stops a hurricane/tornado etc reaching the UK?
I'm sure we've hada few minor things in the past but nothing major.............that I can remember anyway. ( I am only 29 though)

They begin and grow more powerful in the warm seas near the equator and carry on growing until they hit a land mass or cold seas further north...by the time they get across the cold Atlantic they are usually just wind and rain...
