I have a vent in my bedroom which i need to keep so i dont get damp, but the trouble is that it lets alot of noise through. Someone suggested that i fill it with those little polystyrene things you get for packing as this will block out some of the noise but let the air come through? Will it work?

It's good that you are keeping the ventilation. There are vents available with sound baffles. Try your builders merchant. I've only just cleaned a vent filled with small polystyrene balls, probably cavity wall insulation, the balls were all stuck together completely blocking the vent.
