Ooooo...I Love Charity Shops
12 Answers
Since getting my e-reader a few moths ago-my love of reading has been reawakened. I'm building up a library of free classics on it-but I'm also making up for lost time, and catching up on some modern fiction. I've been picking up everything by Kate Atkinson-on the recommendation of my brother-£1.50-2.00 per book...Also found The Help,Room, and books by several other authors whose work I've enjoyed in the past. Yesterday I found 4 for 99p in Barnardos...including
The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Mark Haddon
The Woman in Black-Susan Hill
The Accidental-Monica Alli
The Lighthouse-PDJames
Who else likes a good bargain? and any recommendations I should be looking for?

Best recent bargain....two pairs of brand new curtains in black and dusky green stripes....excellent quality....lined....£5. Didn't need any but you know how it is. :-) Perfect with new cartridge headings for the spare room and the second pair made cushion covers with some black braid..another bargain find waiting to be used.
A book that was on daughter's A Level suggested reading list was The Wasp Factory by Iain Bankes, she chose other books, but I was always on the look out for it in the charity shops and found it in time to take on holiday. It was very strange and not one that I am sure will be to everyone's taste, but certainly very different to anything else I have read. One I would recommend is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - I know it has been around for a while, but if you haven't read it - try to do so - it is a real feel good factor book. I have just finished Incendiary by Chris Cleave - I found this to be very upsetting and couldn't read it at bedtime as it gave me bad dreams.
Do you find that some charity shops charge a lot more for books than others, our Oxfam always seems very overpriced to me, whereas our Barnados and Mencap shops are much more reasonably priced.
