Long Queues in Shops

Anyone else fed up having to queue for ages in shops, Sainsburys 13 people in front of me one assistant on counter apparently it is due to cutbacks not enough staff, did you ever hear anything so ridiculous, Sainsburys short of money, I call it greed. H&M today one assistant on counter long queues again, I could go on but you can have a go.I used to enjoy shopping, not its a chore.

not where i go, our local Sainbury's has enough staff and self service checkout.
Though i can't stand it when the staff are happily chatting away whilst you are waiting to be served

Not experienced that locally, went to Sainsbury this morning expecting the worst on a Saturday but, only 1 person ahead of me with their shopping already being scanned. Only a couple of tills not open.

Aldi was mad today, but it's always busy on Saturday (and I suppose it's the price you pay for the lower costs), Asda was practically empty.

There are cutbacks everywhere. Shops are trying to keep their costs down, and the main way they do this is by cutting back on staffing levels. Customers want cheap prices but the supermarkets still want their profit margins. I'm afraid we can't have it all ways!!

you don't get long queues if you go early enough & avoid the rush,
Sainsburys open at 7am in my area & close at 10pm
everywhere gets busy on a saturday by 10:30am IMHO.

Tesco tried this last year then their profits took a dip, now I don't often have to queue for very long.

All the tills at Tesco were busy so I went to the self service with the few bits I had. Scanned everything then the last item (Daily Express) it piped up "there is a problem with this item, please wait, an assistant is on the way". Waited ages, no bugger turned up so I left all my shopping there and sodded off.

Tesco had a policy a few years ago about queuing and if there was an unmanned till they would open it, that didn't last long.

The Tesco near me in Ware is a classic example, queues 5 deep and 4 tills empty yet plenty of staff around.

The new Sainsburys in Hertford is much better, wider aisles more tills and no queues, every little helps.... you bet it does

I'm more into a UK wide policy of allowing people to shoot those who stop in doorways for a conversation.

If you had a week to think about it and really, really tried, could you think of as stupider place to converse? If you want to talk to your fellow simpleton then fcuk off to a coffee shop!

As I don't have a 9-5, Mon to Fri job I visit supermarkets at all sorts of different times. Waitrose is the only supermarket that doesn't have ludicrously long queues. Even when it is very quiet in store Tesco and Sainsbury can have queues reaching into next week, it is one of the many reasons I don't visit them.

Aldi and Lidl may have good deals but the queues there take ridiculous to a whole new level.

I never queue, I do all my shopping online from Asda.

I do my shopping at home and man brings it in a van.

Funniest thing I've seen at the self-service was a man next to me whose card couldn't be scanned. It asked him to enter his number. He then proceeded to call the numbers out loudly to the machine.

Just in from Sainsburys where I was going to pick up maybe 5-6 items. Left basket on the floor while I went down to get milk - basket was lifted and items were gone. 5 minutes on the ground. Grrh had to go round again and pick up same items as I needed them.
