Has anyone tried their dogs on these? And if so, what did they make of them?

I'm not really awake - but are they real antlers or just chews shaped like antlers? It won't really matter to me as I don't have a dog - but when I did have a faithful hound I loathed half eaten, slimy rawhide chews just left lying around. Yuck!

They sell these at my local pet shop. They are real antlers and hugely expensive. I won't be buying them for my dogs. Can't sit and watch them without imagining they've eaten the whole deer!

I post on another forum, just for dog folk. Reviews are mixed. Some dogs love them and the owners are pleased, one dog had chipped teeth from chewing them. I bought them for my dogs, one just wasn't interested, the other dog chewed on his and split it vertically into sharp shards. This should not happen and the ebay seller that i bought it from replaced it without question. I haven't given them to the dogs again as I am not sure about safety and my chewy boy who split his loves his nylabone ones which are a bit softer and I think less likely to do damage to his teeth.
They are no more expensive IMO than a nylabone of similar durability and size.

Definitely real Bambi bars! Mine love them but they are expensive. They won't eat nylabones. They really like pigs ears best though, but they have gone up so much over the past year they are now rationed. They also like tripe sticks, which don't last long but are cheaper.

Thanks woofgang. I had looked at online reviews and as you say they are very mixed.
Lankeela - do they last long with your dogs? Because I am looking for something which doesnt disappear in minutes! Also, if they do last for a good while then surely they aren't expensive when compared to rawhides, pigs ears etc which seem to vanish almost immediately?!

If they are real antlers where do they get them all from? (that might be a silly question but....!). I have a dog but I've never seen those before.

Venison is "farmed" in the UK. Its actually quite a humane way of farming because the animals get stressed if they are packed too closely together or handled too much. If they get stressed, they get sick and die which is not good for the profit so its important to give them plenty of room and treat them carefully. Antlers are shed every year and regrow. In the wild the animals eat the antlers in order to recycled the nutrients and regrow the antlers without depleting their bodies which is why its quite rare to find shed antlers even in areas with a high deer population.

Thanks woofgang! I shall have to treat my dog to one and see how he likes them. He has shall we say a 'sensitive' digestive system and cant have rawhide chews or ones like Dentastix.

Mine used to love pigs ears, but they sometimes upset their tummy. New favourite is Fish4dogs Sea Jerky strips......I am sure they would do a double sumersault for one.

jules are you registered for their emails? Periodically they off a huge discount off a product..20% or so. My dogs are FFD fans as well.

Ooh not sure woofgang, I tend to buy at shows when they are on offer and I dont have to pay postage. They are not far from me, but I havnt investigated if they have a shop or only sell from outlets, online and at shows.

I bought one of these for my dog and won't be buying again! She broke 2 teeth and one has had to be surgically removed!
