Now, please don't laugh.
I bought a squeezy 'stress frog' in Barcelona and it sat on my desk for ages, more as decoration than anything else.
I was having great trouble dropping off to sleep and decided to try taking the frog to bed with me. I clutched it tightly in my hand and really focused on it, to the exclusion of everything else. Next thing I knew, it was morning.
The poor frog is long gone, so I bought a little 4 inch teddy from a charity shop and do the same with him. The secret is to focus only on what I have in my hand. Strange, but it really works.
So, please don't laugh. Try it.
