We are going to S.A. in November for two weeks, touring. Do we need travellers cheques or can we manage if we take some rand and use our cards to get currency. Anybody any advice on the above , or anything? Thanks in anticipation.
but do check how much your card issuer charges you for foreign withdrawals and whether they charge commission. We find Nationwide one of the best around, that's the card we use on holiday.
Check out the Post Office. First of all their credit card has no fees for purchases abroad.
The Post Office also has a travel money card for use with the South African rand. I've never used one myself, but you may find it useful

We are regular visitors to South Africa and usually keep a few rand back for tips etc but ATM machines are great for getting cash and credit cards are accepted in most places. Avoid using cash machines in dark or isolate places or using a machine a bank guard or other person advises you to use as they are often fixed to scam you out of your card (had it happen to me in Seapoint Capetown)
