Listening to the news this morning there was a piece that the government wish to train more volunteers to join the Army, the incredible thing to me is they want to change the name from "The Territorial Army" The TA's" to "Army Reservists" The Ar's a little too close to "Arse" for me, what do you think?
The TA's were formed in 1908 why change the name, it is a large part of our History, it is known the world over,How do we put this on "Facebook" to register our objection to the change of name.
Thank you

I don't think changing the name will have any detrimental effect on the history of the TA and what it represents. The fact is 'territorial' is an outmoded description of what the TA now does. It is no longer an 'after work' activity group who are occasionally called upon. A huge proportion of what we think of as the 'Army' are in fact TA and Reserve seems a far better description IMO.

Hi Prudie yes I think your answer makes a great deal of sense,I was a little wound up when I heard the news ,I feel to many things are changed just for the sake of it and the cost is massive compared to leaving it as it is.
"Territorial" was chosen as the name because the intention was that they would only be deployed on home territory. As that is clearly no longer the case it makes sense to choose a name more redolent of its actual function.
