Hubby and I are due to go to Egypt in 3 weeks time. The advice leaflet we got from our travel agent recently says that you must have at least one blank double page in your passport. However hubby doesn't have a blank double page in his passport and there's nothing about this in the guidance on the Egyptian consulate webpage. Does anyone know if this is really a requirement or just the travel agent hedging their bets?

Not sure about the requirement, but I've just checked my passport. We went to Egypt last year and the visa plus the arrival and exit stamps are all on one page, so I'm not sure why you'd need two.

Hi Cathyhuns.. We went to Sharm el Sheikh this time last year, which is in Asia, and did not need visas. However, if we had wanted to go on a trip to Cairo, which is in a different continent, Africa, we would have needed a visa so it may depend where abouts you are going or if you are changing continents during your holiday?
normally one is enough, though it may be as haggisdj says; Red Sea Egypt and Nile Egypt are sometimes treated differently. If you're only going to the one, I wouldn't worry about it. Egyptians just put stamps in any empty space they find.
I went to Egypt in 2009 and at Cairo airport they just sell you a visa sticker for $15 which you stick in your passport yourself. I would suggest that you need just one page free.

Thanks for the advice. We decided to play safe and apply for visas in UK. That way if hubby's was refused he had time to get a new passport before we go.
