Can anyone suggest a smartphone that I can buy for hubby. He`s not into social networking . I would like it be "idiot proof". TIA

I would not get him a smartphone unless he has a play with it first.
Also do you plan to buy him JUST a phone, or a phone with a contract?
A phone on it's own can be VERY expensive. An iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S3 can be hundreds of pounds unless you take out a phone contract.
And if he already has a phone contract he may be able to upgrade to a smartphone with...

iPhone all the way!! So easy to use. There are no menus just tap on what you need. Blackberrys are nothing compared to the iPhone. I have to set new blackberrys up every year for work and they are more difficult to set up for email cos you have to make sure your provider has put you on the correct blackberry service
Seriously if he doesn't know much about smart phones. Get an iPhone. The touchscreen and response is second to none.

And if he already has a phone contract he may be able to upgrade to a smartphone with the same company and keep his number.
Also as has been said, what is he going to use a smartphone for. If only for calls and text he does not need a smartphone, because the contract for a smartphone can work out at hundreds of pounds over 2 years.
All in all I would not get him one as a surprise as you may buy it and find he does not like it. If he goes in a shop with you he can play around with it to see if he likes it before you buy it.

Blackberry's are the easiest phones. I started with a Blackberry Curve, easy to navigate, easy to use the phone and text. If he doesn't want it for Facebook, Twitter and all the other networking Apps, that's not a problem either as he can 'hide' those icons :o)
iphones aren't that easy AND they have loads of Apps which you said you're hubby wasn't interested in.
