Remembrance Sunday - The Edward Binyon Poem

Few people, and even people living down here and in either Padstow or Portreath know that Edward Binyon composed the words of the poignant "For the Fallen" down here in Cornwall, overlooking the sea. Both the "Portreath Pepperpot and Pentire Cliffs have plaques to this, with the words of the poem.

Though there is some debate to which site he actually put it together, I believe it may well have been both, working on the composition and then the stress points, line breaks etc, so it is understandable why both are honoured.

I have here a drawing of the Pepperpot, at which he sat at the base, looking out over the harbour and to sea, the Pepperpot being an old form of a small lighthouse that would be lit with a controlled fire to help guide boats into the harbour at night time, on what is a treacherous coastline with lots of reefs and jagged rocks to snare the unsuspecting.

It's not one of my best drawings; however, this Remembrance Sunday, I thought I would share it with you and to remember those words.

LOL @ Thatch, I have walked it from Padstow to Trevose head a few times DT, nice walk around the coast line.
