I appreciate that any experience I have could be perfectly reasonably explained away by any sceptic - the important thing is that I, myself, know.
I believe that anyone can experience God but that most people are not open to it - or may even dismiss such experiences as co-incidence etc.
As I said, can't prove it and would never try - it is far too contenscious (sp?!) a subject. All I would say is to stay open to the possibility - through prayer/meditation etc.
I believe that people have a spiritual experience, and whether that is of God or any gods depends upon their belief and their interpretation of that experience. Constantine (the Great) experienced God, but if you really look into it, it could have been just a convenient way to boost morale on his front line by convincing his troops that God was on their side.
I was raised with a strong catholic background, and although I can't say I have ever experienced God (not sure I would know if I did!) I can certainly say that whenever I visit Stonehenge I 'feel' something. Maybe it is the mysticism and history that I am feeling, and a longing for some divine experience. Or maybe it is just something else created by the atmosphere of somewhere that was once a truly spiritual place way back when. All I know is that I am open to this 'spiritual' expression, here on in a church, but experiencing God - I can't say it has happened to me.
