Trimming pansies

I bought some reduced priced pansies, as they had gone a bit straggly and potbound.

They are growing now, but the growth is on the end of the rather lanky elongated stems.

If I were to cut them back, would new growth come from the base or would it kill them?

It wont kill them Hopkirk. They've just gone a bit "leggy" Make sure the the roots have water and trim away.

Oh I hope you are right Mazie - they are now looking very sorry for themselves!

(There is sign of some new growth at the base though)

Personally have never trimmed pansies. Have always bought new ones but will maybe try trimming a few - for experimental purposes you realise.

Put them in the sunniest spot in your garden...they'll probably be very slow to get going and they may not flower until spring.
