Waterfall in new Honda advert

Does anyone know what the waterfall is in the new Honda advert that the powerboat drives over?

As the waterfall is completely round, I suspect the image is computer generated. The hot air baloon gives the game away!!

The ad was shot on South Island, New Zealand predominantly in the area of the Canterbury Plains.

I'm almost certain the waterfalls are a somewhat computer-tweaked version of those in Iguazu National Park on the River Iguazu bordering Brasil & Argentina.

There are some startling similarities:

The circular section of the falls - known as "The Devil's Throat" at Iguazu.

The dramatic "step" in the river just before the plunge into "The Devils Throat".

If I'm right, I'm pretty sure there's been a fair amount of computer trickery in the Honda advert though. I don't remember any snow capped mountains on the horizon when I visited Foz do Iguacu in Brazil earlier this year(!) and all the viewing platforms and tourist facilities could have been airbrushed out by the computer boffins. Perhaps the flow of the water has been messed around with as it seems heavier in the Honda advert. That said, I visited the falls during July which is winter in Brazil and the flow of water over the falls is not at its highest.

But hey, even if I'm wrong, you simply MUST see Iguazu Falls if you haven't already. They beggar belief!

Although the falls may not exist (or may exist somewhere other than NZ) the snow capped mountains seen in the ad are the Southern Alps which run for most of the length of South Island.

Having sat for a couple of hours with my holiday snaps, comparing them to stills from the Honda add, I'm 99% certain the falls are those at Iguazu. And now we know where the mountains came from too!

Incidentally, it used to be (and perhaps still is) possible to ride in a hot air balloon that got close up to the falls - although perhaps not quite as close as in the Honda advert! I wonder if that's where some of the inspiration for the advert came from...

I agree with Andy, and I visited last month and the water was at least as heavy as that... so they wouldn't need any trickery in terms of the amount of water. This is definately Iguazu. If you go to the site of the prouction company, (http://www.the-mill.com/index.php) it says they filmed in 7 countries and 4 continents. It doesn't specify which they are, but by no means was everything filmed in NZ.
