Arranging a Funeral

Can you arrange a Funeral without a Death Certificate? We have waited 3 days since Death and still no Certificate as promised in the Post. Thanks for any replies.

Where is the Death Cert coming from?

We've just been through this process, and the Death Certificate was issued by the registrar when we went to the office to register the death. This might seem a silly question, but have you done that?

There had to be a Post Mortem and now an Inquest is needed as no apparent cause of Death was found,Coroner has promised to post interim Certificate, but,we are still waiting. We don't want to go to Funeral Directors and be told a Certificate is required,hence the question.

If you 'phone the undertakers, they will probably be able to advise you, it won't be an unusual situation for them.

If cause of death hasn't been established, I'm pretty sure you won't be allowed to arrange the funeral. Why don't you ring the funeral directors?

The thing is, a Death Certificate must state cause of death - and if that hasn't been established, the certificate can't be issued.

Agree witn naomi, dont think you can arrange a funeral if caused of death hasnt been established.

Give the coroners office a ring - they're very helpful and can answer questions that the funeral director can't.

I had a post mortem and then an inquest eighteen months after the death of my husband. I had an interim death certificate with cause of death in about a week from the coroner but started the funeral arrangements before that.
