who are spinal tap... i heard they were only famous through some tv show... is this true... whats their story

"This is Spinal Tap" is a fantastic spoof documentary about a fictional rock band called... "Spinal Tap". I *think* some songs got released based off the popularity of the film. The film is pant wettingly funny if u like heavy metal or even if u like laughing at it. The girlfriend of the lead singer is the best bit, apart from the bit where the guitar player explains very slowly that his Marshall amps are better cos the volume "goes up to 11"

They have released other albums other than the sound track, but yes they are a made up band by 3 comedians.

The band are made up of three permanent members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls (played by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer -yeah Otto and others from the simpsons - respectively) and they had a number of various drummers who all met with unfortunate ends.....John "Stumpy" Pepys - Gardening Accindent.....Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs - Choked on Vomit....Peter "James" Bond - Spontaneous Combustion.....Mick Shrimpton - Onstage explosion.....Joe "Mama" Besser - Missing, presumed dead....Richard "Rick" Shrimpton - No one knows what happened.....They got together to make the spoof documentary as stated but in a case of life imitating art they actually had some chart hits and did some live stage work....Track names seem to stick in the mind for some reason are Big Bottom, Lick my love pump and Break like the wind.
