It is partly to see how things have worked after the laser, but I also have a possible retinopathy appointment since I left last week after I told them I couldn't stay past 4pm. I will take some reading material along as long as they don't put in loads of drops.

Eye clinic in my local hosptial has to be seen to be believed! (Geddit?) No waiting room, sit in a corridor with patients on trolleys being wheeled past, desultory cleaners sweeping dust into corners and leaving it there, nothing to read but stuff on noticeboards, nursing staff scruffy and have 'can't care less' attitude. I've compained about waiting times and service several times and was told by Clinic Sister on last occasion when I ranted at her that they are aware of the short comings of the adminstration of the clinic and that I should put in a formal complaint. My response, 'As Sister in charge of the clinic and aware of the problems why don't YOU do something about it? Then stormed out!
Next appt I was seen immediately and treated with the utmost respect!!
Try it, if more people complain they might just DO SOMETHING!
(NB worked for NHS myself for years and ran my own clinics and caseload)

Send copies of your letter to PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Services) at your hospital and to the Chief Executive of the hospital, also the clinic manager, an investigation procedure will then take place and (ha!) something might get done. Don't just sit there for hours, it's not just your problem, think of all the others who sit there like stones without ever querying why. It's really not good enough.
Aww, my eye hospital is pretty good. Long waits but each area has its own separate waiting area in the new bit of the hospital so it's very nice - lots of different clinics separated off. Got a nice cafe and little shops and even a Costa right by it so I'm very lucky. Hope it goes well! I'm back in a few weeks.
Fingers crossed for both of us :) I'm very lucky with the eye clinic and rhumatology and physio but know what you mean as main outpatients not too bad but if you are sent for general bloods it's like a cattlemarket, so many people they have a ticket system and nowhere near enough seats, it's just crazy! Thank goodness rhumo have their own bloods nurses - makes such a difference.
