The Government are discussing young drivers not carrying passengers at night time unless family, "Re/Road deaths with young drivers) there is a simple answer to this problem, the car is registered to that person, the DVLA knows the person's age, before that person Begin's to drive the car, the car has to be taken to a VAT / dealer's garage, & fitted with a sealed speed limiter, the owner has to take the car back to that garage for inspection every month to check that the seal has not been tampered with, the age of getting your license to be increased to 18, if ANY speeding offences within the first year of driving they loose their right to drive, this will reduce the amount of deaths with the young know it all drivers. all negative answers welcomed.
Since young drivers (or more likely, their parents) are already paying thousands of pounds for their car insurance, I can't see them wanting to cough up a further monthly fee for a garage inspection. We already wait long enough for our own garage appointments - we'd never get in if this kicks off.
im 22 and i have recently passed my driving test. i do not break the speed limit (although fair enough i do know some people who do) i dont go fast cause im terrified of getting a ticket or points!
I would HATE to have to drive to a garage monthly, i dont care what they will be doing but driving to a garage which may not be close every month will be such a pain. Are they going to pay for the petrol it takes to get there all the time? i only say this cause i have not mny garages around where i live and with my work i am a shift worker so its not ideal as i may not be free.
oh yes further to boxtops answer. i only had 3 insurance companies who quoted me under £3000 for my car insurance...
in the end i had to go with admiral who were giving me the cheapest quote of £1565 but with multicar got it down to £1250, bargain!
when I learnt to drive I did have a couple of lessons at night. My first car was a 1953 ford prefect which if you were lucky would do 40 mph down hill with a tail wind, vacuum wipers which slowed down the faster the car went.
My first motorway was a few years after passing my test and to say I was nervous is an understatement.
IMO night and motorway driving should form part of the test.
