is there somewhere people can check that their old vehicles are not still on the road?

i scrapped a car, but actually it was a pretty good car except for 2 issues that a mech could have sorted, or at least patched up - but its age etc made it not worth the money itd have cost me to properly fix it.
they also came to my folks house and offered a price, we didnt approach them...
it was years ago now but just curious really.

another post where someone has got loads of fines has got me wondering how people can be sure.

AS long as the relevant section of the V5 was filled in and sent to DVLA then you are covered. A certified scrap dealer will also issue a notice of destruction.

Never rely on anyone else to inform of such changes, always do it yourself.

The only way you can be sure is if you actually scrap it yourself, not sell it to a scrap man as they then have every right to repair it and resell it. However if you have done the paperwork correctly it won't matter because it will no longer be registered to you.

My local council has a car scrapping service which we have happily used a couple of times now and not had any comeback at all
All paperwork filled in appropriately at the time though and relevant bit sent, recorded, to DVLA

I scrapped a car through one of the Government/DVLA approved centres: they paid more than the usual scrap dealers and you receive an instant DVLA linked Certificate of Destruction.
