Teenage son - chest pains.

Son aged 13 came home from school yesterday fine, but with a note from his P.E teacher saying he had to stop participating as he was getting chest pains every time he exerted himself. So teacher got him to sit out of the rest of the lesson. He was fine when he got home, and is fine today. But he said it was really painful. Any ideas?

pulled muscle inbetween his ribs? it can be done......are you sure he is fine today?keep an eye on him.....any more pain get straight to a+e x

pulled a muscle perhaps, my brother did this and was in a lot of pain in the chest area, sweating and all sorts. we took him to the hospital just to be on the safe side.

Go to GP who will do an E.C.G etc.

Boy of 13years of age with chest pains........was this a "one off" or had he been getting them regularly?

Extremely unlikely to have been cardiac (heart) in origin, or coming from the lungs.....most likely muscular in nature.

I would guess from your post that this is a one off and in which case i would monitor the situation....no need for a GP visit at this stage.

an ecg is a good idea, actually....why don't you get an emergency appointment with the gp today? x

Was the first time he has ever complained of this. He had actually had P.E the day before as well and was fine. Insisted he was ok this morning and was certainly chirpy enough. Was waiting till he got in today to see how he is.

Smow my 14 year old cousin complained of chest pains while doing her D of E. They were kayaking (sp?) and the doc suspected a pulled muscle. I hope he is ok xx

em....anybody can do an ECG...nurses, doctors, tradesmen, ambulancemen........the trick is to do them properly and interpret what you see..............that is the trick.

Em10, most GP's surgeries have an E.C.G. monitor ... they have done for quite some years now.
