Car Number Plates

Can anyone tell me why (in the UK) the front and back car registration plates are different colours?

on narrow roads, especially at night, you need to know whether you are catching up with another car or meeting it.

The reason is that the yellow plates reflect back less brightly, so are less likely to dazzle when following a car at night.

because the only thing on the back of a car that is allowed to give off/reflect white light are the reverse indicators ( the white lights that come on when you put the car in reverse)
