Just had a very distraught son on the phone. One of his best mates died of a massive heart attack last night. Only 43 and leaves a wife and three kiddies. So sad and so young.

However, benefits are one thing, the right to assistance another, so, if it is too much for you (both) to cope with, don't hesitate to ask. There are all sorts of way of getting assistance - and this is without being a burden, per se, on the State.
All you need do is ask here and then evaluate the best way through to what you guys need....

That is so sad for your son to come to terms with Maggie. Especially as he has 3 young children. My Dad died suddenly of a heart related illness at age 57 and my husband had a heart attack at exactly the same age, nearly 8 years ago, thankfully he survived. God bless that poor family and your son. I'm sure you are a really loving Mum who can give him comfort and strength with God's help.xx

Aww such sad news.
Jeza - my god, how do you cope!? I really feel for you :(
My Dad died suddenly when he was 35 of a heart condition (which he didn't know he had). It was hard for my mum with 3 young children - I was 11, brother was 10 and sister was 6. We used to go for counselling every week, such a shock to us all.
It's made me a very nervous person and made me clingy to my mum as I was always worried she'd die. I really feel for that family right now :(

Jeza, please claim for some allowance to enable you to have a rest from the hard work of being a carer. Mic deserves it and so do you. I'm sure in your working lives you paid into the system for so long. It would help you to have someone in to share the help, and they could even become a special friend to you both. That is what happened to my friend's m-i-l, she had the most wonderful carer who eventually lived in and treated her m-i-l like her own mother. Take care both of you <hugs> xx
