I've got one of those, it's ideal for stirring sauces. Don't know if it has a name, but it could have eclesastical origins...............being holy !!!

A spurtle is a stick thingy that you stir porridge with, Pickle. I got given one last Christmas and was quite bemused until it was all explained to me.

Stirring spoon with hole eh? why didnt i think of that? I'd already tried google an came to that conclusion thanks! Thanks v much for the genuine answers!

I was told that this hole was for measuring pasta - it = a serving for 2....
I can envisage the hole being used to measure spaghetti, but farfalle, tortellini, fusilli and taglietelli nests etc would be a bit problematic! What's wrong with the British Standard Handful or is that for something else?
