This is a puzzle!
24d (3) Nowadays V ? A
I get the V from Elvis (He was the King and his bible sold for £59000 earlier this year in a sale organised by Omega Auctions in Stockport) and the A from Sarah (Gold-medal swimmer-turned-world-beating cyclist, Paralympian Ms Storey, is the pride of Disley.
Maybe it's Latin? Thanks for taking the trouble to look.

This does seem odd.
Elvis and Sarah seem to be the right answers, so assuming you have put the letters in the right place it leaves the answer to 24d as V?A
The only word I can see is VIA but that doesn't mean nowadays. The Latin word for 'nowadays' doesn't fit these letters either.

Is this your last clue? Are you sure you are looking at the right combination of clue and letters? Sorry if that sounds obvious but I have seen problem questions on here where the poster had mixed up the clues.

Maybe one of the crossword specialists on here will see this and be able to help
I am no specialist but have given it plenty of looking at and can see nothing.
I've spent a lot of time on this, too, but have made no progress. I think there's an error here somewhere.
It may be worth ringing the paper and asking whether they are aware of a problem
Should Elvis be Aaron (presley)?

I'd like to thank you all very much for looking at this for me. I rather think I will give Cheshire Life a ring and see if there has been a mistake. This was the only clue to be one word - all the rest were quite involved. Perhaps a chunk of clue has been accidentally edited out! Many thanks again.
