plug it in, double click "my computer" and you should see it there. double click "removable disc" and you will see what is on the inserted card (i assume it will be empty!)
find a picture or file or whatever that you want to put on it hold the mouse over , right click and go to copy then go to removable disc and right click paste.
you have put something on the card. taking things off is the same but in reverse..that should get you started (there are other ways to use it but its a start!)
sorry i could only see the first part of your question for some reason. i thought you couldnt work the reader. you can probably get lost images back with file recovery software. this is one of many. they work in different ways but its worth a go
