The court is there to punish him for his actions in this country, people shouldn't think they can come here commit offences and then expect the worse to happen would be a flight home again.

On a serious note - the man is very likely to be suffering from a serious mental illness, or someone who dabbles in drugs from the scarier end of the spectrum. If you're biting a statue so hard that you loose teeth, the there is something not quite working brain-wise.
