I'm about to post a Christmas card to a friend in New Zealand, and intend to pop a photo and a short letter (one A5 size sheet ) in with it. Some one told me today that you are not allowed to put anything in with the Christmas card. Does anybody know if this is true, and what difference would it make, how would anyone know if I just put them in?

You are misinformed. There is no problem with sending any correspondence by land mail to New Zealand. Just watch the physical thickness of the letter or the UK Post Office charge you more.

Thanks Methyl, silly question really, but it worried me incase the card was not sent for some reason. x
I think they are getting mixed up. You can send what you like it's the price that will shoot up. You may have to put a customs sticker on it but they will take it.

This goes back years, when you could send cards in an unsealed envelope at a cheaper rate, but could not make any enclosure.
make sure you put your name and address on the back, should the card not get delivered eventually it will be returned. These people telling you your not allowed to do this and that really crack me up.
It goes by weight, but the closing date is Dec 5th. The PO will weigh it - I just mailed one with a letter in it to Canada.
This reminds me; remember years ago writing airmails on that flimsy paper, folding it up and writing the address on the outside? They were prepaid so you couldn't add another sheet in there.
