tv remote control and Plug n Play

Help! we need to find a tv remote that works with a Goodmans older-model black TV. This would make the Plug and Play game work. Has anyone any ideas how to get around hunting for an old remote. ? Would one of those universal remotes work in switching the mode across in order to play games on the telly??
