I'm with a local doctor's surgery but really can't stand the doctor I'm on the books with so I tend to ask to see someone else if I go. Is it possible to change to another doctor and have their name officially on my documents for that surgery or is it too late to change it now and surely they would ask why? I just hate putting her name on forms etc when asked who my doctor is as I don't want her to be the one coming out to me nor having documents sent specifically to her.
You're entitled to change your GP without giving a reason. However you need to remember that other GPs at the same surgery may have full lists, so they're not obliged to accept you.
My "official" doctor at our local surgery is a female who I can't stand. If I need to see a doctor, which luckily for me is seldom, I always ask for the doctor of my choice. Might have to wait a day or two but it's worth it. Obviously if it was an emergency then I'd see the first available.
Same as maggie. You can see whichever doctor you like. And you can put on whatever form you are filling out the name of the doctor who has sent you for whatever treatment you are having. It really doesn't matter.
looking at it from the other way, if you and your doc don't hit it off, they may be as happy as you are for you to change. Even the best of us who deal with the public in very personal ways can't always have a rapport with every patient.
