Symptoms came on this morning and got so bad I came home from work. It's stinging/burning really badly when I go for a wee and there's traces of blood when I wipe myself. Got those sachets from the chemist, taken 2 so far but no relief! Drinking as much water as I can to flush it all through.
How quickly do the sachets usually start working or would the fact I have blood in my wee mean I should see the doc for antibiotics instead? Do they have to do a urine sample and wait for the results before giving you antibiotics or do they give them there and then?
Been absolutely years since I've had this but can't remember it being so bad, boo hoo!!
Antibiotics shouldn't be needed - I find that 24 hours on the sachets should do the trick, make sure you take them at the right intervals. You probably would have to give a wee sample to the GP just to make sure what's going on. Is the blood definitely in the wee, not from the surrounding area?
personally i disagree - antibiotics probably will be needed. They usually start you on some speculatively and take a sample, then when it comes back check you are on the right ones
You're probably right bednobs, but some infections are antibiotic-resistant now, I've just looked it up. I'd go to the GP if it didn't resolve in 48 hours.
If you start to feel poo, shivery and /or feverish then do go to the docs as cystitis can track back up to your kidneys and then you will need anti bi's. I find that bicarb in water (a pinch to a glass) tastes fairly foul but works better than the sachets.
What intervals are you meant to take the sachets at? The box didn't say, only 3 sachets each day for 2 days. It was so long ago when I last had it that I can't remember much about it. Seemed to come on pretty quick and strong this morning though. Not feeling ill in any other way thank god. An assuming the blood is from my wee - as I say I can only see it when I wipe myself after going to the loo.
Go to your GP, this is a bacterial infection and he will guess the offending organism and give you antibiotics..............only if an when this does not resolve the situation would he send a specialism for culture and sensitivity of the invading organism.
They may, buffymad..... I would call your GP surgery in the morning and tell them that you have traces of blood in your urine, and it's urgent that you see a DR today....that will get you the appointment, my lovely.
Hope you're on the mend soon, buffymad :0) x.....and yes, drinking Cranberry Juice is good for Cystitis, if not been scientifically proven, as helps with urinary tract infections also.
......If you can,Buff...please put a follow up on this thread to let me, and all here know how you get on tommorrow and how you are.
You take care, young lady :0) x
