When I watch BBC TV programs via my Philips freeview recorder a box pops up asking if I want to watch in SD or HD. This occurs at the start of every program and I am brassed off with it. I have searched the settings of the box for a way of stopping this with no success. Any ideas anyone?

It's because you've tuned into an SD channel. If you were to select an HD channel, you wouldn't get the message, you'd just get it in HD automatically.
Though to be fair, it is an annoying message, not every program is available in HD and constantly switching between the SD and HD channel is a pain so a lot of people just leave it on the SD channel.

The general consensus seems to be, you can't get rid of the message easily as it's freeview broadcasting it, it does seem to say on a lot of forums that if you're really not interested in watching HD then delete the HD version of the channel from the box and it will stop the prompt.

Thanks for that info. Frankly I have never noticed any difference in picture quality between SD and HD so I will probably see if I can delete the HD channels.
